Critique of Memoirs of a Yellow Dog
Memoirs of a Yellow Dog is a very heart-warming short story by O.Henry about the relationship between an owner and a dog. The relationship Lovely and the husband share is a very strong relationship because even though the husband can’t understand what Lovely says, he still seems to get what Lovely is hinting which represents friendship at its strongest. The husband and Lovely bonded when they both found out that they don’t like the way the wife treats them. The part about how Lovely knew what the husband needed which was to leave his wife because she was taking advantage of him, is amazing. This story shows that you can get advice from anyone and the strongest of friendships could come from anyone. “I refused to leave. I leaped and frisked around the old man's legs happy as a pug on a rug,” this quote basically describes the happy and strong relationship Lovely and the husband have. The messages in this story mean a lot in today’s society because it tells us that we should accept advice and friendship from everyone. If we all except advice and friendships from anyone and everyone, we all could be headed onto a path of happiness which is why Lovely and the husband left. I would recommend this short story to anyone who likes heart-warming stories that have a little twist.
